Mooching at home

Today the weather has been less than sparkling, & I have been mooching about at home in my pyjamas.

It seems an age since I was last out and about with my camera (more about why coming soon), and I have two new lenses just crying out to be used, but for the moment I’m making do with my trusty iPhone for the odd snap on the fly.

Today, baking that got just a little out of hand (resulting in a monster-sized cake), the inevitable clean-up, and planning springtime changes indoors and out…

Flock of seagulls

I’m beginning to think we may have taken the seaside theme in our bathroom a tad too far….
….what do you think?
Although I think there is room for inflatable seabirds in any home!  Surely it’s bound to catch on?

On my walk this morning…

… absentee ducks, greedy caterpillars and blustery winds.

Those very hungry caterpillars have been at my cabbages again, creating lace-like leaves on their way (it seems even coffee grounds don’t affect their appetites).
No ducks this morning sadly, no doubt they were being sensible, staying warm indoors.

Sloe and steady

Piercing 1 kilo of sloe berries with a pin…. I may be some time!

Several pinpricks and two hours later….

and we have 3 bottle of sloe gin, and one gin-jar (for the leftovers hic!).

Just have to be patient now…

Pumpkin patches, pints and a pair of comfy slippers

I’ve been a little lax of late, so have lots to catch up on.  To start us off, today saw Mr C and I pay a visit to the Balloon Tree Farm Shop.  There were pumpkins, pumpkins everywhere, as far as the eye could see.  On trailers, carts, in fields, in baskets, along paths, you get the picture….

Beautiful, buttery soft autumnal light
It’s the great pumpkin, Charlie Brown
The goodies didn’t stop with the pumpkins though, we came away with several treats (sticky ginger pudding anyone?) and 1kg of sloes…
And, I loved this range of sauces and stuffings…!
Before we left, we also got the chance to say hello to some of the local residents…
We then headed off on our way home, stopping en route for a swift pint at one of the smallest pubs I’ve ever seen (think the size of someone’s living room), but one that’s boasted a famous visitor (that’s Mr Redford to you).  It also benefits from it’s own orchard and fishing…
The Decor
Just as the sky started to cloud over, and there’s a nip in the air, I’m back home warm and cosy in my PJs and new granny slippers, just the matter of 1kg of sloes to prepare ready for the gin…
